The Flock Character Guide

The flock is your squad and your progress bar at once. The Merlies that survived the storm move as a group: what one bird cannot reach, the squad can — because "combine their unique abilities to unlock new paths" is the game's official progression formula. As you rescue lost Merlies, the flock grows and learns new skills, which is what opens the hidden passages of the metroidvania-style map.

Official trailers show the core image of the game: a line of tiny birds climbing one after another, gliding together over a pond, waiting for each other at a ledge. Exploration is squad-shaped rather than hero-shaped. The birds are fragile — the store page warns you to be careful not to lose one of your Merlies on the way — so the flock's pace is set by its most vulnerable member.

Lost Merlies scattered by the storm are found during exploration and brought home to the village. A bigger flock is not just a bigger family photo — it is the key that gates the map. Passages that stayed sealed on your first visit open later as the squad's collective abilities grow.
