Red Merlie Character Guide

Small red-breasted birds are the most prominent Merlies across the official screenshots and trailers: clinging to vines, marching along branches, huddling on the pond bank. Working name note: the game has not published individual bird names yet, so this guide — like the early community — calls them by plumage. After launch we will replace these working names with the official roster.

In the canopy they climb in single file; in the ruins they perch on human leftovers; in the village shots they gather around the flock's scrap-built homes. The red birds read as the reliable core of the squad — the ones you see doing a bit of everything, which makes them the natural first squad members for new players.

Each Merlie has a specific ability during exploration, per the official description, and the full ability-to-bird mapping will be confirmed at launch. Until then, treat the red birds as your all-rounders: visible, versatile, and present in every biome shown so far.
